After doing the readings for this week, I was curious as to
how smart phone use may have altered the landscape of digital divides. To that
end, I dug up a
useful census report from 2013 that addresses just this question. The
general report links to a fairly accessible PDF
based on data from 2011, which breaks down internet use among various
populations. This is especially interesting in light of the "Digital
Gates" article from this week's reading, in that it addresses differences in internet use (and
access) based on race, ethnicity, income, geographic location, and other
factors, and because it includes smart phone use in its scope.
