RFID and Libraries

I was quite surprised at the number of print resources about this:

  • Ayre, Lori Bowen. RFID in Libraries: A Step Toward Interoperability. Chicago, IL: ALA TechSource, 2012.

Describes the evolution of the RFID’s standardization in a library setting. This resource touches on the interconnectivity of different libraries in a system.

  • Palmer, Martin. Making the Most of RFID in Libraries. London: Facet, 2009.

A practical and jargon-free outline of RFID in a library setting and whether or not the technology may be useful for “your library”.

  • Shien-Chiang Yu. "RFID Implementation and Benefits in Libraries." The Electronic Library 25.1 (2007): 54-64. ProQuest. Web. 30 Mar. 2014.

This article weighs the overall costs inherent with migrating a library (a single, specific one or an entire system) to an RFID based circulation system. This can shed light on the overall budget issues.
