The future of libraries and e-books

This week’s readings got me thinking about what the e-book issue might mean for libraries going forward. I was curious as to how e-book lending works in libraries now, how e-book publishers and libraries interact, and what ideas might be out there for e-book lending in the future. In my searching, I stumbled upon this article from NPR: The Future of Libraries in the E-Book Age. It explains in a little more detail the limitations placed on library e-books by publishers, the ways that libraries are trying to serve their patrons and how that intersects with the e-book question, and some ideas that have been proposed in the past for dealing with e-books in the library setting.
