Roles of Librarians

The Pew Research Center published the findings of the "Libraries, patrons, and e-books" study through the Pew Internet & American Life Project on June 22nd, 2012.
One of the findings stated "Librarians' roles are changing."

Related to this, I'd like to share a few infographics related to the current roles of school librarians; also known as media specialists, library media specialists, literacy media specialists, teacher librarians, media teachers, and I'm sure there are even more titles I'm missing. These titles are the first clue the role of a school's librarian are definitely changing. To learn more, check out:

I find these infographics particularly relevant in justifying why a qualified media specialist is a necessary part of a K-12 school and an easy way to share some of the roles fulfilled through this position. In terms of the relation of these infographics to this week's theme of "virtual publishers," there are many elements of virtual librarians embedded within the roles illustrated above.

Have a lovely Monday!
